Welcome To Midtown

This morning I got a phone call. The voice on the other end said, "Help."

I love it when my kids call for aide from their mother. Since they are always helping me out, I love returning the favor.

Gav has a new job and he needed a short blurb to introduce himself for the news letter.  I guess he thinks I'm a good blurber! Actually Gavin is a good blurber, I just embellished it.

Congratulations Gav on your new Job! He's a Laketown man and a Midtown man now!

News Letter Blurb: Introducing, "Gavin R. Crowther ---Dweller of the fields.

Are you wondering, “Who is Gavin Crowther?” My name has many meanings. The original Welsh version means, “White Hawk Of Battle.” I am 1 of 8 kids. I have 4 brothers; “XBox” is where I battle. When I'm not working, I have many passions in life: In the spring you’ll find me on a distant trail on a motor bike; in the summer, on a board behind a boat; in the fall, you’ll find me on a mountain stream with a fly rod secured tightly in my hand because I’m reeling in a monster fish; and in the winter, you can find me practicing on a mountain in the powder, hoping in my next life I can be featured in a Warren Miller Ski film. Cleveland, Ohio is my birthplace, which explains my strange allegiance to teams such as the Browns (football), and the Indians (baseball).  I love a good nurse; literally my wife is a nurse at McKay Dee Cardiology.  I enjoy helping others and find great satisfaction in being a part of a winning team.  What I have learned so far is the Team here at Midtown is exactly that. I look forward to contributing to its success.

Great job ---White Hawk! They are going to love you!

You'll Shoot Your Eye Out

Some uncles will do anything for their nephews. That's how it is with Uncle Seppy.

Craig is the one who started up with the idea. He wanted to take Spencer shooting. He told Goose to bring his new gun he got for Christmas and come. As soon as some of the other Crows heard the word, "Gun," there was a mass exodus to grab their weapontry and join in the fun. We're a redneck family.

When we got there Seth started putting on his coveralls. I couldn't figure out what he was doing. Craig loaded the paintball gun and told Spencer there was nothing better than a moving target. Notice who has the gun in the video.

I've never laughed so hard in my whole life. Next time I wanna' hold the gun while Seth runs!

Seth, you're a dang fun, awesome spectacular Uncle! I hope you and Haley have a ton of boys and a few girls too. Your going to be the kind of dad every kid dreams of.

Well, it was a fun day. Here are a few pics of the event.

The Moving Target

The Moving Target is tired.

Meet Jacqueline. She's not only sweet and cute, she can shoot!

Look out Seth.

"There are no dangerous guns, just dangerous men."

"Can you run 850 feet per second? If not your head better be bullet proof."

Cute couple.

"Go ahead, Make my day!"

Hum, why are you so tired Seppy?

Ready, aim, fire!

Annie get your gun???

It helps to squint, "Squint"?

Show us your welts.

"The only difference between men and boys is the size of their toys."

Kelson says, "Guns are like potato chips. You can't have just one!"

Need more amo!

Interesting targets. . .

My dad had four girls. Good thing he raised us like boys.

Jacquelin is a dead eye!

Haley's not bad either.

Des says to me as she takes aim,
"I have a 45 and a shovel. I know how to use them both."

This is what "cute" looks like.

Grandma bought em' and gave em' to me.
I passed em' on to Des,
Love those red cowboy boots!

You need some help there Brotha?

There's gotta be some great John Wayne quote to go right here.

"When all else fails, get a bigger gun!"

Bonnie and Clyde!

Even if you're a redneck.
When it comes to guns remember, SAFETY FIRST!
We cleaned up our targets and headed home.
Fun day Family Of Mine!

Help The Burrell Family

This is worth a post here. Meet Kasey and Natalie Burrell. This cute little family lives next door to my daughter Kaedell. Natalie use to be a Panunzio. She went to school with Em. Kasey is one of the Ogden City Police Officers who was seriously shot while attempting to serve a search warrant with his squad. The following letter was posted on facebook. Hope this helps.

Dear Friends and Family,

I would like to take a moment of your time and tell you about a dear friend of mine and the struggles he is now facing. Most everyone is aware of the tragedy that recently occurred within the Ogden City Police Department. One officer lost his life and 5 others were wounded.

He was shot in the head and the stomach. He was in intensive care for a week and has recently been upgraded to fair condition. His recovery period could last for several months to years.

Kasey and Natalie have 2 small children ages 5 and 2, with a baby girl expected to join their family in June.

I believe it would be very unfortunate if this families financial needs were not met. I want to be able to help them and I'm asking for your help in this effort. We all have been blessed well beyond our means, but I am not asking for anything that would put a burden on your family. I am asking for whatever amount you would feel comfortable with giving to this special family.

It is times like this that not only rally a community together but it blesses us all as we help those who are in desperate need.

You can donate at any WELLS FARGO BANK

Changes To The Blog

This month I've been mulling over my goals and desires for 2012. I really enjoy blogging but it's always bothered me that my personal blogging is sandwiched in between my family blogging. I've long had a nagging feeling to separate the two. There are numerous good reasons for doing so. The main one being the size of the book I have to compile at the end of each year, so with that, today I make the separation. I'm moving my personal blogging to a new site.

I love to blog. I like to record my life. I also like to write and philosophize about it. I do it for two reasons; first it helps me, and second I have lots of people tell me it helps them. I like knowing I've cheered someone up, made their day a little lighter, and helped them in their pursuit to find happiness. And in addition to that, at the end of the year I have a pretty good journal.

If you enjoy reading the personal side of my blog, and you want to continue, you'll have to email me for the information of where to find it. Send your request to fayecrowther@gmail.com

I will still blog about my family here. And hopefully my family will blog here a little more. On my personal blog, I'm getting ready to post my 2012 motto and various other things. There I will blog about EVERYTHING! Join me if you're interested and thanks for being friends and visitors of The Crow's Nest.

In Memory of Officer Jared Francom

Some things in life you just don't want to miss.

When I found out they were asking citizens to come and line the entire
funeral procession route, I wondered if people would answer the call.

Em called and asked me if I would drive her.  She just had surgery and isn't walking to good. Driving is still out of the question. I wondered if she ought to go at all. Craig, however, works downtown and was excited to give support to this cause. Em wanted to be there and wanted her children there too.

I didn't worry about how many people were going to turn out when Craig told us that there were more parents checking their children out of school than there were kids in school.

Everywhere I walked up and down Washington Blvd.
There were kids and Scouts and at least a billion flags.

This was the sight though that made me choke right up.
Firefighters everywhere on both sides of the road and a
huge flag hanging in the middle of them all.

Every spot occupied a flag.

Spencer just became a cub scout.
He was so excited to wear his uniform and come.

I was born on the 4th of July. I don't know how I got so lucky to have such a beautiful birthday,
but it's one I treasure deep in my heart. I love my country! I have a thing for flags and
Red, White, and Blue! And I'm only mad my mother didn't name me Liberty!

I wore my Eddie Bauer full length down coat.
Even though it was only 34 degrees and the air was crisp and cold,
It felt like summer standing there in the sun with all those flags blowing!

I think I took over 200 pictures.

We lined up in the median.
Craig had a friend up on Harrison. He got the word the procession had turned onto Washington.

There were choppers in the air.

And I was astounded when I looked and saw what was coming down the road toward us.

A motorcycle salute is sacred to these guys.

I was overwhelmed. For as far as the eye could see, they just kept coming.

I snapped shot after shot and when I turned to look the other direction,
I was astounded at the amount of men who had brought their bikes.

I saw license plates from every state that surrounds Utah.

Idaho, Arizona, Nevada, just to name a few.

It really was incredible to see.

I was so busy with my eye behind my camera lens that when I shot photos of this fire truck coming,

I had no idea Officer Francom was being carried on top. I didn't realize it till it got past me.
When I saw that casket draped with a flag in the eye of my lens, I lost it.

There was so much emotion in that scene that I could not see what I was taking pictures of.

I just held the camera and pushed the button in hopes something would turn out.

Jared Francom was born in 1981. He is one year younger than Seth.
He lived just down in Hooper. His wife and two little daughters are left behind.

I have a good friend that actually worked with all of the officers in the debriefing after this tragedy occured.

Some things in life cannot be understood no matter how hard you try.

Channel 5 news chopper followed it all from the sky.

It was a somber day.

And I was not prepared for the amount of officers that would turn out to give support.

Total time I spent standing on Washington Blvd?

While one police car filled with people after another passed by?

Over two hours!

This K-9 Unit belongs to a good friend of mine who would have been at the scene with Officer Francom and the other men. That night happened to be his night off.

I was so proud of Spencer-roo. He saluted every car for two hours.
You are an awesome Scout Spence.

As the afternoon pressed on, I got this shot of Kate waving.
I love the light on her. It reflected the day.

Ali conned me out of my hat. You look cute in it Ali!

Craig and his co-workers.

The sun was beautiful on the flags and the sky was clear and blue.

In the end, I was overwhelmed at the love and support of so many.
It was a great tribute to one man who was just doing his job.
Thanks Craig and all those at Merrill Lynch who let us come and be part of their group.
