Another Good Book

Do you hate exercising? Do you hate working on becoming physically fit. Do you hate it with a passion? "Man With A Drill" hates exercising so bad he'd rather go out in the yard and pull weeds. I'm not complaining that's at least better than nothing.
I think "Man With A Drill's" disdain for exercise is an inherited male Crowther gene. The trouble is, Glade's mother died at 63 of heart problems and his father died in his early 70's of the same.
"Man With A Drill," works hard and hasn't got a lot of extra time. His job however does not afford him any exercise. Not getting any exercise however leads to an on going war at my house. I love my husband and I want him to be healthy and fit! I want as many "GOOD" years with him as I can get and I see as both he and I age we need the benefits that exercise brings. Hence proceeds my continual argumentation for eating healthier, losing weight, and exercising.
I don't care who you are or what your platform is, there is no factual evidence anywhere in the world that supports LIVING A LIFE WITHOUT EXERCISE!!! Not exercising, is the biggest mistake human beings make. Every time you exercise you make an enormous deposit in your own life. A deposit that brings great dividends in so many ways I can't list them all!
Henry S. Lodge, MD states in his book, "Younger Next Year," if you are over 50 years of age, you should be exercising for no less than an hour ---six days a week ---without exception! That's a pretty bold requirement, but as you read the book you will come to understand why that advice is worth it's weight in gold if you follow it!
"Man With A Drill," thinks I love exercising. Frankly, I don't know anyone who loves exercising. What I do know are people who love being fit! Most people do not love the strenuous part of physical activity. Most people do not love working their guts out and forcing their bodies to do things a body just doesn't want to do. I don't know too many people who really love sustaining the pain of pushing oneself through strenuous physical activity for an hour. What they do love, is is the benefits exercise brings after having done it!
I just ran my first 1/2 marathon. I've been an individual who touts exercise all my life. Why? Because I see what happens to people when they don't. I see what happens to me when I don't exercise.
I was a walker for 21 years. Now, every day but Sunday I run, bike, swim, stretch or lift. I've committed an hour of each and every day except Sunday, to exercise. I've made this commitment for the benefit of my health.
Some of the activities I do require me to get up at 5:00 in the morning in order to fit this in my day. I'm here to tell you, it is NO FUN rising at this hour when I'm tired and I need to sleep! As I sweat to push my physical limits, I'm always in the mind frame . . . I hate this! After though, when I finish ---my thoughts change dramatically. Something happens at the end of my routine where I seek to be physically fit. Maybe it's the endorphins, I'm not sure, but somewhere great satisfaction enters into me like an overpowering drug, and I am hooked. I am hooked on exercise, and I'm so hooked on how it makes me FEEL when I'm all done doing it!!!. The benefits are remarkable if a person can just work towards maintaining the habit.
Rather than tell you all about these books. Just order yourself a used cheap copy and read! You won't be sorry! When you are finished you will 'WANT' to exercise! And that will make all the difference in your life! Just talk to anyone who has made the transformation from getting off the couch to getting fit! Everyone who has changed their mindset on exercising will give you a profound testimonial touting the transformation and all it brings!
As for "Man With A Drill" . . . I'm one stubborn old woman honey, and this is one war I'm going to win!!! Because, those who think they have no time for exercise will sooner or later have to find time for illness and poor health. I do not want that to be US!

What's on the book shelf?

WHAT MAKES A MARRIAGE GOOD?

Check out this book, "i love you more" formerly "When bad things happen to good marriages".
By Dr's, Les and Leslie Parrott

The Parrott's say,"A good marriage is built by two people's capacity to adjust to bad things." Here are some excerpts from the book:

"Ask most people this question and you'll undoubtedly hear something about love. But ask anyone who has given serious thought, dedicated themselves to study and research of the topic, and you'll hear a different answer. Better yet, ask this question to couples who have a good marriage in spite of the bad things they've encountered and you'll hear the answer that matters most. That's what the authors above did, and it became the reason for writing their book.

Here's what they said: "A good marriage is built by two people's capacity to adjust to bad things. In survey after survey, when we asked couples to crystallize their thoughts on what makes a marriage successful, that was their answer. And when we pushed them to flush out that answer, we learned the secrets these smart couples hold.

A good marriage is made up of...
Two people who take ownership for the good as well as the bad.
They are a responsible couple.
Two people believing good wins over bad.
They are a hopeful couple.
Two people walking in each other's shoes.
They are an empathic couple.
Two people healing the hurts they don't deserve.
They are a forgiving couple.
Two people living the love they promise.
They are a committed couple.

From all that we can gather, these five qualities are the armament used to protect good couples from the destruction of bad things: ownership, hope, forgiveness, empathy, and commitment."

HEARING the VOICE of the LORD

Need a good book to read? Gerald N. Lund's new book, "Hearing the Voice of the Lord" is a keeper. I just finished this book and I'm reading it again!

This book is about learning to understand principles and patterns of personal revelation. I think as children of God, we often fail to understand our right to personal revelation or how to recieve it and apply it in our lives.

Spencer W. Kimball said "The almighty is with this people. We shall have all the revelations that we shall need if we will do our duty and keep the commandments of God. . . Remember: If there be eyes to see, there will be visions to inspire. If there be ears to hear, there will be revelations to experience. If there be hearts which can understand, know this: that the exalting truths of Christ's gospel will no longer be hidden and mysterious, and all earnest seekers may know God and his program."

I found my favorite quote in this book after reading just the first few pages. "As Paul taught, the things of God appear foolish and illogical to the mind that is not touched by the Spirit. Paul said, ""The things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. . . . The natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned." (1 Corinthians 2:11, 14)

I recently went through a very powerful experience in regards to some very personal revelation. It was not an experience I asked for or expected to receive. As I traveled through this experience I was so impacted by it. It has greatly changed me on the inside, a change I hope to never lose. The above quote holds a lot of meaning for me.

As I struggled to understand this experience and as I have struggled to keep it with me, I was praying for some help. That's when I found this book. I have such a testimony of prayer and this book was a great answer to my mine. The following quote brought me great comfort and reassured me that while this experience was very powerful to me, others might discern it as foolishness.

In reading the book I was reminded of how the world often times viewed Joseph Smith and I realize more and more how it is simply not for us to judge each other. The Lord has reserved that right for Himself, because only He knows our hearts and understands the varying circumstances and complexities of our lives!

I loved this book! I loved it so much I'm reading it twice! It's a great resource for helping us understand the tremendous power available to us as we call upon the Lord to guide us through our lives! Our Father in Heaven is always there!!! He wants to speak to us. Most important, He wants us to live worthy to hear His voice! It is a great comfort to me to know personal revelation is something my Father In Heaven wants to give me and that it is readily available to me if I live worthy. It is no small task to try to live worthy to receive it and I get discouraged when I fail! But, I'm reminded of that little saying "Be patient, God isn't finished with me yet!

"For by my Spirit will I enlighten them, and by my power will I make known unto them the secrets of my will------ yea, even those things which eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor yet entered into the heart of man (D&C 76:5-8, 10.)

Check out this book! You won't be sorry!

April's Reading

Need a good book to read. Check out, "The Last Lecture" by Randy Pausch. Professor Randy Pausch passed away early in the morning on July 25, 2008, at his home in Virginia. He is survived by his wife, Jai, and his 3 children, Logan, Dylan, and Chloe.
There is a section in this video clip that asks, "Are you a Tiger or an Eeyore?" When I was a junior at Weber High School the drama department decided to put on a play for all the elementary schools in the Weber and Ogden school district. It was to be a traveling show. Since I love acting and being on stage I decided to try out. I was cast in the role as Tiger, I still remember some of my lines.
When this question was asked to me again as I watched this clip, I was reminded what a great role it was and a compliment that someone identified those qualities in me enough to give me the part. I decided after reading this motivating book, I ought to keep promoting my role as Tiger! I was thankful to be reminded that it was truly a great part to play. And as Tigger would say, "T, I, double G, R - that spells Tigger.
